It’s time to make your New Year’s resolutions a reality – in the comfort of your own home. With a new year comes new adventures, new opportunities for growth and maybe even a new home! Whether buying or selling your home made your new year, new you list, these are four ways to utilize the space in your home to help you reach your goals this year.
1. Work hard and save more
Tired of paying for a gym membership you don’t use anymore? You don’t need a fancy at-home gym to get in shape. Create a space in your home to work out in. Whether it’s a small nook of your home with a yoga mat or re-setting up that old treadmill you have sitting in the corner of your basement. Make your health your #1 priority this year and invest in your well-being. According to the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, it is recommended that adults get at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week. That’s roughly 20 minutes per day when you break it down. Find a work out regimen and keep at it. Everybody is different, so find a workout that works best for you.
2. Eat healthier
Is holiday weight bringing you down? A healthy diet goes hand-in-hand with working out when it comes to losing weight and building a better, healthier you. Re-spark your love for cooking by freshening up your kitchen with some new gear. From a new set of reusable containers for meal prep, a new cookbook with recipes the kids can help with, a new set of pots and pans or if you really want to splurge, renovate the kitchen (or at least try out a new backsplash). Whether the change is big or small, try something new in your kitchen and bring back your joy of cooking and making healthier choices.
3. Stress less
It’s tough to come home after a long day of work to a big, disorganized mess. One way of relieving stress is having everything tidy – which is much easier said than done. It’s important that when keeping things tidy, everything has its own spot in your home. If it doesn’t, create it! Drawer dividers are a cheap and affordable way to keep your clutter organized.
Another great way to de-stress is by trying out aromatherapy. There are many benefits to using aromatherapy methods such as pain management, improving sleep and yes, of course, relieving stress and anxiety. Diffusers can also make a cool décor piece in your home as well. If you find that other conventional methods haven’t really worked for you, they’re worth a try and remember, your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
4. Slow down and spend time with friends and family
It’s easy to forget to take time for the little moments. There are a lot of things life throws at us every day but it’s important to stop every once in a while and enjoy the people around you. Open your home up to those moments by creating a liveable space for your friends and family (and even your pets). The more open your space is, the more inviting it will be.
