home appaisals versus home inspections

Feeling a little blue because you didn’t get a proper summer vacation in this year? When your friends and family are posting pictures online of their exotic travels and amazing destinations, it’s hard not to feel a little left out. A staycation may be just what the doctor ordered; it’s a great way to take in all those happy holiday vibes at a fraction of the cost! You can choose busy and fun outings, or perhaps quiet and serene is more your style…or maybe a bit of both! The key is to put some energy into it and really commit to making great memories at home! We’ve got six helpful suggestions, so you can enjoy staying local while feeling like you’re getting a true vacation.

1. Tune out & turn off

Whether it’s just a few days or a week-long staycation, let others know that you’ll be unavailable (unless it’s an irresistibly fabulous party invite). Turn off those notifications and resist checking your social media feeds; it’ll all be there when you’re back at it. If you must check work emails, set a scheduled time each day to deal with it so it’s not always nagging at you.

2. Plan ahead

You know what they say: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. Don’t let your precious time slip away from you with chores, groceries and other ‘daily grind’ tasks. A few days before you start your staycation, make up your wish list of what you want to accomplish and get to work on planning and shopping in advance for food, event tickets, toys/games, and so on. You’ll also want to check the weather forecast and be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has in store.

3. Get out of your routine

Routines can get boring – so mix it up while you enjoy your staycation! Turn off alarms and get caught up on your rest, stay up late to star-gaze, eat at odd hours – whatever recharges your batteries and feels a little decadent.

4. Splurge a little

Since you aren’t spending a fortune on flights, hotels and car rentals, why not spend a little extra on a nice meal out, that backyard lounge set, snorkel gear for the kids, or an afternoon at the spa? The point is to make it feel like you are on holidays, so be sure to treat yourself and your family here and there for that real vacay vibe.

5. Be a tourist in your town

There are so many amazing things to do right here in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Meaford, Grey County and surrounding areas all year long, but sometimes we forget to check out what’s going on locally and we can miss out on some serious fun. A day at the beach with a cooler full of goodies, a hike at Blue Mountain, kayaking in Georgian Bay, a vineyard tour, apple or berry picking or roaming around the many great shops and cafes are all so memorable. Check out your newspaper of local events or hop online to get all the juicy details.

6. Tackle a job around the house

While it may not sound like a vacation, taking some time to cross something off your to-do list at home will feel quite rewarding. Perhaps this is the time to finally refinish that old table, decorate a neglected space, paint your room or sort through old photographs – just make sure it’s something that’s not too demanding or stressful. Your home will feel more like the oasis it is with a few special touches.

It’s always important to take time out of our busy schedules and hit refresh on fun while making lasting memories with loved ones. If you can’t get away for your vacation, don’t forget that you can always have an amazing time by enjoying a staycation. Living in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Grey Highlands, The Blue Mountains or the Meaford area means you’ll never run out of marvellous things to do here all year long. It’s truly a magical place!
